Are you finding it hard to write?

It’s difficult to slow down these days. Our attention is pulled from screen to screen, to-do list to text. Finding focus within the daily chaos is challenging but in order to connect with our deepest creative work we need to get quiet inside…

Find refuge from your every day

Join professional writer Lauren Carter at her home on a 1.4-acre country property a short drive north of Winnipeg for monthly guided writing retreats. Writers of all levels looking for the space and time to settle into their stories are welcome. Spend the full day or just the morning or afternoon devoted to calming, creative exploration.

What you will do

Pick a prompt from her mid-century library catalogue. Curl up on the antique settee to write or walk the trail through the shelter belt. Daydream your story by a bonfire. Listen to the bees buzz in the apple blossoms. Watch monarchs flit over the tall-grass prairie garden or sip tea by the strawberry patch.

Write. Breathe. Repeat.

What you can expect

    • facilitated, generative writing prompts and discussion
    • support within a circle of other writers
    • the option to share your work
    • coffee, tea, and delicious snacks
    • a dose of healing nature

Amazing! I’m so happy I took the day and attended this retreat! It was a fantastic way to reconnect with my writing and immerse myself in a wonderful, creative, supportive environment. This writing retreat arrived at the perfect moment for me, even though I didn’t know I needed it. I would highly recommend it for everyone! ~ Lindsey Henley

I have attended several writing classes and retreats hosted by Lauren. At each one, I have learned about something new: courage, the submission process, point of view, public reading, poetry, constructive feedback, creative non-fiction, acceptance, fiction, laughter that turns to tears and tears that turn to laughter. Lauren’s calm manner and respectful words create safe spaces for all. She says, ”if you write, you are a writer!”  ~ Conni Cartlidge

The balance of useful instruction, expert advice, and hands-on writing was perfect. Lauren created an inspiring space where I felt safe sharing my work. The feedback I received has given life to my stories. ~ Leanne Fornier
